in 2002 WAHF's scholarship program is another step towards
fulfilling its mission statement. The organization's first
scholarship, named after Carl Guell, long time Wisconsin aviation educator, is awarded annually to a continuing student in an aviation
program at one of Wisconsin's technical colleges. The Carl
E. Guell Memorial scholarship is in the amount of $1000.
In 2005, Jerome Theissen, a
WAHF member and graduate of Blackhawk Technical College's
Aviation Maintenance Technician Program, approached the
board with a proposal for a second scholarship. The
Theissen Field Scholarship, also awarded annually to a
continuing student in an aviation program at one of
Wisconsin's technical colleges, is in the amount of $500.
In 2007, the family of
long-time WAHF member/supporter Jerome Ripp approached the
organization with a plan for a third WAHF scholarship. The
annual scholarship would be in the amount of $500 and,
like the Theissen Scholarship, be awarded to a continuing
student in an aviation program at one of Wisconsin's
technical colleges.
Scholarship applications are available
through the financial aid office of the colleges with an
aviation program. Applications must be completed by the
stated due date, usually mid to late March. Completed
application packages are forwarded by the applicant to the Chippewa Valley Technical College Foundation
(CVTC Foundation) located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
The CVTC Foundation provides staff
assistance in the application review process. The WAHF
Board of Directors review the top applicants and name
the winning candidates in late summer. The scholarship
recipients are recognized during the organization's annual
awards banquet at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh.
The CVTC Foundation also serves as the
WAHF scholarship fund investment manager. Donations to the
scholarship fund may be made using this form
