The annual induction ceremony is held at the
Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA's) AirVenture Museum
located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The event includes the organization's
Annual Membership Meeting, a no-host reception, a sit-down dinner
and the ceremony itself. A silent auction was added to the reception
as a scholarship fund raiser in 2003. The museum is open to event
participants prior to the evening's festivities.
The museum's Eagle Hangar provides a fitting
backdrop as the lives of the year's inductees are relived through a
multimedia presentation. Surrounded by family, friends, coworkers
and fellow aviators, the inductees are welcomed into the hall by
previous inductees.
The first induction ceremony was conducted in
1986. Three Wisconsin aviators were inducted annually until 2000 when a Pioneer category was added. This group of inductees made
their respective marks in aviation prior to the Lindbergh flight in
May 1927. Currently, there may be as many as six individuals
inducted into the Hall of Fame each year.
