May 8 - 15, 2009 Second Floor Rotunda Wisconsin State Capitol Madison, WI The Wisconsin Centennial of Flight exhibit will be located on the second floor of the rotunda near the south staircase and adjacent to a Liberty Bell replica. May 16 EAA Chapter 60 Fly-in Breakfast at Beloit Airport (44C) Beloit, WI Volunteers from this Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) chapter spent more than five months building the Warner-Curtiss model. WAHF is indebted to them for their tireless efforts and craftsmanship. Visit their website for their story of the Warner-Curtiss build project. May 29 - 31, 2009 Southern Wisconsin 2009 AirFEST Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport (JVL) Janesville, WI The US Navy's Blue Angels will headline this air show. A static display of more than a dozen military aircraft will also be available for examination. June 6 - 7, 2009 Thunder on the Lakeshore Manitowoc County Airport (MTW) Manitowoc, WI The Wisconsin Centennial of Flight exhibit will be visiting EAA Chapter 383 during this popular air show. The exhibit will be located in the chapter's hangar (Hangar 22) where the group will provide pancake breakfast each day. Additional details are available at the air show's website. June 8 - 19, 2009 Oshkosh Chapter, Women in Aviation Wittman Regional Airport (OSH) Oshkosh, WI The Oshkosh Chapter of Women in Aviation will hear "The First Thing I Knew I was Flying", the A.P. Warner story as part of its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 16 at 6 PM The meeting will be held in the airport's conference room located in the terminal building. The public is invited to attend. More information is available on the press release. The Wisconsin Centennial of Flight exhibit will have an extended stay in Oshkosh. The exhibit is available for viewing during normal airport business hours.
June 19 - July 7, 2009 Wings and Wheels Sheboygan County Memorial Airport (SBM) Sheboygan, WI The 19th annual Wings and Wheels pancake breakfast is scheduled for Father's Day, June 21. This flyer provides all the necessary details. EAA Chapter 766 sponsors the long-running event. July 9 - July 19, 2009 Balloon Rally Wausau Downtown Airport (AUW) Wausau, WI Just in time for the Wausau balloon rally, the Wisconsin Centennial of Flight exhibit will visit the Wausau Downtown Airport beginning July 9. John Chmiel, and his extraordinary staff at Wausau Flying Service, will host the exhibit. The exhibit will be on display in the airport's terminal building. On Wednesday, July 15, Michael Goc will present "The First Thing I Knew I was Flying", the A.P. Warner story. The presentation will begin at 6:30 PM in the airport terminal. July 27 - August 2, 2009 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2009 Oshkosh, WI The Wisconsin Centennial of Flight exhibit will be on display in EAA's AirVenture Museum during the World's Greatest Aviation Celebration. Visitors to the museum will find the exhibit among other Glenn Curtiss displays. Descending the stairs as you enter the museum, continue past the Wright - Kitty Hawk display, then look to your left. August 5 - August 31, 2009 La Crosse County Historical Society Swarthout Museum La Crosse, WI The Wisconsin Centennial of Flight exhibit will have an extended stay at the La Crosse County Historical Society's Swarthout Museum in downtown La Crosse. Michael Goc, Wisconsin historian and author, will be presenting, "The First Thing I Knew I was Flying", the A.P. Warner story and La Crosse area aviation history on Monday, August 5. September 1 - September 22, 2009 Wisconsin Aviation Dane County Regional Airport Madison, WI Jeff Baum, longtime WAHF supporter and life member, asked to host the Warner-Curtiss exhibit. We are happy to oblige. Wisconsin Aviation's Madison location is the state's busiest general aviation terminal. The Jet Room Restaurant is located inside the terminal, an excellent restaurant owned by WAHF member-supporters Pat and Pam O'Malley. Tom Thomas, WAHF board member, will present, "The First Thing I Knew, I Was Flying" on Monday, September 14. The presentation will be given twice, first at 4:00 PM and again at 7:00 PM. The event is free and open to the public.
September 23 - October 15, 2009 Atlantic Aviation Waukesha County Regional Airport - Crites Field Waukesha, WI It is only fitting that the Warner-Curtiss model and display visit Waukesha. Dale and Dean Crites, the field's namesakes, flew early Curtiss models. The brothers proved invaluable resources when the Glenn Curtiss Museum looked for assistance in locating a Curtiss seaplane. Rose Dorcey will present, "The First Thing I Knew, I Was Flying" on Tuesday, September 29. The presentation will be held at Atlantic Aviation and begins at 7:00 PM. October 17, 2009 WAHF Induction Banquet and Ceremony EAA AirVenture Museum Oshkosh, WI The 24th annual ceremony salutes the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame's 2009 inductees. The evening will include recognition of EAA Chapter 60 from Beloit/Janesville and other partners involved in Wisconsin's Centennial of Flight celebration. The Warner-Curtiss exhibit will be on display in the Eagle Hangar of the museum. The event is open to the public. November 4 and 7, 2009 Wisconsin Centennial of Flight Celebration Beloit, WI The centennial celebration concludes with two days of activities in Beloit. Participation in the celebration is free; no registration is required. The public is encouraged to participate in all of the following events: Wednesday, November 4 9:00 AM Morgan Elementary School Program incudes: rededication of historical marker, recreation of Warner flight, and fly-over by Wisconsin Air National Guard. Both flights are weather dependent. 5:00 PM Beloit Historical Society The program includes recognition of EAA Chapter 60 of Beloit, builders of the Warner-Curtiss model; and delivery of the model to the Beloit Historical Society. A reception will follow. Saturday, November 7 3:00 PM Eaton Chapel, Beloit College Dr. Tom Crouch will present the centennial address, a reception will follow.
