WAHF Annual Meeting
The Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame (WAHF) will hold its 2004 Annual Membership Meeting in the EAA AirVenture Museum on Saturday, November 6 beginning at 3:30 pm. The meeting will be conducted on the museum's lower level in the Batten Board Room. The Batten Board Room is located adjacent to the Goldwater Room.

All member-supporters are welcome and encouraged to attend this important meeting. The 2004 Annual Report will be available and several important announcements regarding the organization and its membership will be made during the meeting.

The Annual Meeting is immediately preceded by a Board of Directors meeting also held in the Batten Board Room. Member-supporters are also encouraged to attend the board meeting.

Silent Auction
A silent auction will be conducted beginning at 5:00 PM in the Eagle Hangar. The auction is one method WAHF uses to fund its scholarship program. Over 50 items will be up for bid. A booklet describing the event, the items up for bid and item contributors will be provided to everyone participating in the evening's events.

We encourage all participants to aid us in our scholarship efforts. Plan to participate in the silent auction, bid on some excellent items, and take home some excellent "buys". We appreciate your help.

Silent Auction Donations
Items up for bid are through the generosity of many fine companies and individuals from across Wisconsin and across the country. The Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame salutes each of our contributors. Consider these companies when in need of their goods and services. Contributors are detailed here.

Rose Dorcey, WAHF President, said, "Words cannot express my gratitude for the individuals and organizations that have provided items for this year's auction. Many donors also gave to our inaugural event last year. The generosity of all donors is very much appreciated. We also appreciate all of those who generously bid on the items."

2004 Carl Guell Memorial Scholarship
The ceremony will include the presentation of the 2004 Carl E Guell Memorial Scholarship. This year's recipient, Torran McCarthy, resides in Milton and is a second year student in the A&P program at the Blackhawk Technical College (BTC) in Janesville (WI).

McCarthy is a US Navy veteran trained as an aviation electronic technician. While a student at BTC he has served as vice-president of the school's aviation club. He also hosts a study group in his home, with an open-door policy for all students in the field.

McCarthy said the scholarship would help fund his two-year program at Blackhawk while enabling him to get into the workforce. After graduating from BTC, he plans to attend classes on a part-time basis to reach his ultimate goal of becoming an aeronautical engineer. BTC instructor James Stec says, “McCarthy is an exceptional student who brings a lot of real world experience into the classroom.”

This marks the third year for the $1000 annual scholarship, named after Carl Guell, long time aviation education advocate and founder of the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame.

2004 Induction Ceremony
F
ive Wisconsin aviators to be inducted at this year's event
Aviation pioneers Walter Lees and Paul Culver will be inducted along with long-time NASA research scientist Herb Hardrath. Joining them will be pilot examiners Harold "Duffy" Gaier and Field Morey.

Morey, a Madison native who now resides in Medford, Oregon, will join his father Howard to become the second father and son pairing of inductees. Paul and Tom Poberezny were inducted in 1986 and 1996, respectively. Field Morey is a nationally known flight instructor and pilot examiner. Until recently he ran the FBO and was airport manager of the Middleton Morey Field Airport, now under the management of his son, Rich Morey.

Gaier, of Neillsville (WI), is a long time pilot examiner and airport manager. He has the distinction of concurrently managing the Neillsville and Marshfield Airports. He and his family have operated the FBO, Duffy's Aircraft Sales and Leasing, at Marshfield for over 25 years.
