This first induction ceremony would set
the tone, format and location for the event for the next twenty
years. Yes, there would be changes along the way but as you read
about each year's ceremony you will discover common threads, goals,
and values.
This first induction ceremony was preceded
by a social hour and dinner. The evening opened with an invocation
and continued with comments about the new organization, its goals
and aspirations.
The presentation of the awards was
the highlight of the evening for both the audience and the
recipients. Inducted this first year were Brigadier General Billy
Mitchell, represented by his niece Mrs. Harriet Pillsbury; Paul
Poberezny, and S.J. "Steve" Wittman.
Following the award ceremony A. Scott
Crossfield, famous test pilot, gave an address. The evening would
prove to be an excellent beginning for the fledgling organization
with 196 people attending the premier event.
